History of SnookerSnooker is a cue sport that originated in India during the late 19th century, and was initially a variation of billiards. It was invented by British Army officers stationed in Jubbulpore, India, who were looking for a game to play that would be more challenging than billiards.

The officers added extra balls to the standard billiards game, and changed the scoring system to make it more difficult to score points. They named the game "snooker" after a slang term for a first-year cadet in the military.

The game quickly gained popularity in the region, and by the early 20th century, it had made its way to the United Kingdom, where it became popular among British Army officers stationed there.

In 1927, the first World Snooker Championship was held in the UK, and the game continued to grow in popularity throughout the 20th century. Today, snooker is a popular professional sport played around the world, with major tournaments and championships held annually.

English Billiards History

Universal English billiards is a cue sport that originated in the 19th century in Great Britain. It evolved from two earlier cue sports, carom billiards and pyramid pool.

Carom billiards was played on a pocketless table and involved hitting both object balls with the cue ball in an attempt to score points by hitting cushions and making caroms. Pyramid pool, on the other hand, was played on a table with pockets and involved sinking a designated number of object balls into those pockets.

English billiards combines elements of both games, and was initially played on a table with four pockets, as well as a baulk line and a spot at the centre of the table. Players earned points by potting balls, as well as by hitting cushions and making cannons (caroms) with the cue ball.

The game quickly grew in popularity, and by the late 1800s, it had become one of the most popular cue sports in Great Britain, with several tournaments and championships held annually. English billiards has since spread to other parts of the world, and is now played in many countries around the globe.
